Caves Nadal - la finca nadalCan Nadal de la Boadella was established at the start of the 16th century, in the Penedès region of Catalonia. A parchment scroll signed by the notary Francesch Berthomeu, dating back to 1510, names Pere NADAL as the owner of an agricultural estate located in Torrelavit. At the NADAL Estate they have never stopped growing vines and producing wine, even in the difficult years of the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), when part of the estate was expropriated to build a military airfield.

Ramon Nadal Giró, an heir with initiative, born in 1903, when the Alt Penedès was just starting to replant the vineyards that were devastated by the Phylloxera plague. In 1941, Ramon Nadal Giró, founder of NADAL, replanted the vineyards in the family estate where the old vines had been uprooted to create the aforementioned military airfield. Two years later, the production of Brut cava began.

The grapes used to produce the range of cavas, noble white wines and late-vintage sweet vinegar, are grown in the over 40 vineyards that surround the winery, the cellars and the ancestral home. The vines, with a high average age, produce high-quality, balanced grapes.

els productes de nadalThe NADAL Estate produces more grapes than it needs to cover all its wine, cava and vinegar-making requirements. This allows them to select the best varieties of grapes to produce the best wines.

At the Nadal Estate the indigenous varieties of green grape are grown: Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada.

Macabeu has an excellent reputation for producing high-quality wines that can be used for creating cava – complex, well structured, with fresh and fruity aromas – and overripe due to the fungus, Botritys cinerea, which makes the grapes ideal for making noble sweet wines.

Xarel·lo gives pale wines with ochre tonalities, fruity, mature aromas and very voluminous in the mouth. A variety essential for the production of the cava that is made in honour of the founder, Ramon Nadal Giró, and the dry white crianza wine, Finca Boadella.

Parellada grapes produce very pale wine with greenish reflections, delicate, floral aromas and are very smooth and fine in the mouth. This grape variety is used exclusively to make cava.

Rosé cava is made from the Pinot noir variety.
